Our Guide to Safe Treehouse Adventures For Children

Every child dreams of having a treehouse. Even as an adult, climbing up a treehouse ladder evokes a feeling of nostalgia for that treetop hideaway you always longed for when you were younger.

Even a small treehouse or playground will provide your kids with endless hours of entertainment and excitement. Not to mention, a good excuse for them to get out of the house and play in nature.  There’s no doubt that building a treehouse in your garden for your children is bound to win you brownie points. But how safe can a treehouse or elevated playground really be?

The answer to that question? Very safe indeed - with the right supervision of course!

Read our blog to learn about how we put safety and fun at the heart of all the treehouse designs we build.

Staying Safe Doesn’t Have to Be Boring

For children, treehouses and playgrounds are all about having fun. With intelligent treehouse and playground designs, it is possible to maximise fun and safety at the same time.

Our Redland Monkey Gym is a perfect example of this. It includes a climbing wall, a fireman’s pole, and a ramp for easy access for children of all ages.

But in addition to these fun features, there are also a number of safety features. For example, while the top section of the playground is easily accessible, we also installed a number of wooden rails around the top platform to ensure no  accidents can occur.

Safety features can also be part of the fun. The Boat Playground’s upper and lower decks are encased by funky railings decorated with a ship’s wheel and pulley system. The Castle Playground’s 2m high platform is encased by a decorative fairytale framework to keep your kids safe.

Co-creating your child’s dream treehouse or playground

As a parent, naturally, your child’s safety will be a priority for you when designing your child’s treehouse or playground.

This is why at Treetop Co, the first part of our design process is to understand a bit about who we are building for. We will ask you questions about the age of your children and what play features they are likely to enjoy most. We’ll ask you how many kids you have and how many friends they are likely to want to hang out with in the treehouse. This helps us adapt the height and design of your treehouse or playground to ensure that they will stay safe whilst having fun.

Where you might have children of different ages we can offer a hybrid design. For example, our Nassjo Treehouse incorporates both higher and lower platforms and can cater to younger children who aren’t used to heights as well as children who are.

Alongside numerous play features such as a climbing wall, a scramble net and a fireman's pole, the Nassjo treehouse’s numerous platforms and balconies are encased by robust wooden railings to ensure your child doesn’t fall.

One of the great advantages of elevated play structures is that you can cram a whole lot of fun into a small space - something that is of utmost importance if you have an urban garden. The Elmfield Treehouse combines a platform, climbing wall, monkey bars and slide, as well as an easy access staircase and stunning stag oak railings to keep your kids safe as they play.

Building Treehouses and Playgrounds to Last

When bringing your child’s dream treehouse or playground to life, we will ensure that it is built to the highest possible standards.

First, our team will survey your garden to find a suitable location for your treehouse or playground. Any trees that are incorporated as part of the build will be assessed and pruned to remove any dead wood.

When building the treehouse or playground, we use only the highest quality fittings and most durable timber (which also happens to be sustainable and locally sourced). This means that the treehouses require minimal ongoing maintenance.

Our tree friendly construction techniques ensure that our builds are not only safe for your children, but safe for the trees too.

On top of that, we will check on your build after 2 to 3 years to ensure it is still safe and in good condition.
